When you enter the world of making money online you are automatically competing with thousands of other people, whether you want to or not.  In the time I have been doing online marketing I have seen people use a lot of methods to get signups and traffic to their programs.  Some of these methods are what I consider to be dishonest, and I don’t use these methods myself.  I’m talking about such things as multiple social networking site profiles – Myspace, Twitter, Facebook etc.  I am personally not against having say, a personal and business page – but some of these people are using programs(often cracked versions) that manage 10+ accounts for them, spamming the same links over and over again and making it look like they are actually talking to people when they aren’t.  These programs they use are set on auto pilot.  I like to call these people ARS’s, or Automatic Robotic Spammers.

Twitter is making it’s way right to the top of the social marketing food chain. Why? Because it’s very easy to use, accessible, informative and a lot of fun. I am still quite new to it myself, but being someone who is generally not a big fan of social networking sites, I love it. The fact you can only type 140 characters at a time is great, you have to be creative and it almost completely puts a stop to the things I don’t like about other social networking sites – notably relationship drama and the ‘look at me, look at me!’ factor.

It’s an incredibly powerful marketing tool too. You can find people both to help you in your particular marketing areas, or find markets to aim at. There’s so many addons and extensions too, which give you endless possibilities. Whilst I do tweet about the various programs I in, I also tweet about the other things in my life too – my music, my family etc. I think it’s important to have that balance.
